Pensacola, FL: The Florida Small Business Development Center Network (FSBDCN) is proud to announce the selection of Congressman John Mica as its 2007 Small Business Dividend$ Award winner," says Jerry Cartwright, FSBDCN State Director. Congressman Mica represents the 7th Congressional District of Florida and is serving his eighth term in the 110th Congress. His many accomplishments that encourage the success of entrepreneurs and small business are widely recognized and demonstrate the priority he places on economic development and the small business community. This, however, isn’t surprising since Congressman Mica was a successful businessman for over 20 years, affording him a business-minded approach to public service. He has demonstrated his sensitivity to and support of entrepreneurship and small business through measures that ensure an expanding economy, good paying jobs and maintenance of a healthy industrial sector for Florida. Tax, lawsuit and healthcare reforms, along with support for Veterans employment opportunities, continue to underscore his advocacy and concern. As a recognized national and Florida leader on transportation issues, he is positioned well to assist in the development of local and state transportation alternatives. Promotion of small business in Florida is evidenced further by his support for legislation that encourages entrepreneurship and business |

The FSBDCN staff used 19 specific small business issue votes to determine the 2007 Dividend$ winner and his voting record was 95% positive. Congressman Mica’s legislative sponsorship, advocacy support and votes are truly significant for Florida small business. The Dividend$ Award will be presented to Congressman Mica at the FSBDCN's Seventh Annual Capitol Reception in the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007. The FSBDCN implemented an annual capitol event as a unique and relaxed way to brief the Florida Congressional Delegation and its various partner organizations and agencies regarding the impact of federal funding on the Florida economy, the small business community and in particular the impact in each member's district. The event also provides partnership networking opportunities with Florida SBDC Network Directors. A distinct element of the event is the acknowledgment of a Floridian whose service to the state has included strong support of small business issues. Past award winners include: Bill Nelson 2006, Ander Crenshaw 2004, Bob Graham 2003, Bill Young 2002, Connie Mack 2001 and Andy Ireland 2000.
